According to the public information on the official website of SIAA (Antibacterial Products Technical Association), there are many more mainland Chinese enterprises that have become SIAA members in the past six months, including Dongpeng, Komoo and other sanitary ware-related enterprises. So far, more than 10 companies in the sanitary industry have been admitted to the SIAA, and a number of their products have received SIAA antibacterial certification.

According to incomplete statistics, as of July 13, 2021, the Chinese mainland SIAA member companies more than 60. Ltd., Foshan Dongpeng Sanitary Ware Co., Arrow Home Group Co., Foshan Hegii Sanitary Ware Co. Ltd., Xiamen Yidian Intelligent Technology Co., Midea Group E-Commerce Co.

There are 2 new sanitary ware related companies in mainland China recently joined, including Quanzhou Komoo Intelligent Kitchen & Sanitary Co. It currently has 65 models (series) of products certified by SIAA. Foshan Dongpeng Sanitary Ware Co., Ltd. joined on January 26, 2021. It currently has 10 products (series) certified by SIAA. As previously reported, Dongpeng’s recently released Silver Sit series of smart toilets precisely use SIAA-certified antibacterial materials.

In addition to Chinese sanitary ware companies, many Japanese sanitary ware companies are SIAA members, such as TOTO, LIXIL, Panasonic, Takara standard, etc. In addition to ordinary toilets or intelligent toilets, many Japanese sanitary ware companies have also applied for SIAA certification for other products, such as bathroom pendants, toilet paper holders, towels, air purifiers, dryers, etc., but overall it is still mainly ordinary toilets and intelligent toilets.

Chinese products antibacterial performance is no less than Japanese products

At present, the products applying for SIAA certification are required to pass antibacterial experiments, SIAA respectively for each product applied for water resistance and light resistance experiments, and in the two items for coliform bacteria and Staphylococcus aureus antibacterial activity value (unit R), that is, the ability to inhibit or kill pathogenic microorganisms. According to the definition of SIAA, when the antibacterial activity value is greater than or equal to 2.0, it can be judged that the proportion of bacteria proliferation on the surface of the product is below 1 in 100 (i.e. eliminating more than 99% of bacteria), and the greater the antibacterial activity value, the stronger the antibacterial effect of the product.

Throughout the experimental data, both the Chinese and Japanese products have antibacterial activity values greater than 2 for different bacteria under different items, indicating that the products have good antibacterial ability. Among them, Hegii’s various smart toilets under the SIAA number “CN0122355A0001L” (including Q8, Q8PLUS, Q9, Q10), the antibacterial activity value against various bacteria is above 5, with the highest being 6.1. Its overall performance is excellent. Meanwhile, among the experimental results listed above, the antimicrobial activity value against a single species of bacteria was the maximum of 6.3, which was measured in the antimicrobial ability of coliform bacteria under Arrow, Dongpeng and Ikahe water resistance items, respectively, and performed equally well.

It is worth mentioning that Japanese brands LIXIL and TOTO both have antibacterial activity values below 3, with the lowest being the antibacterial activity value of Staphylococcus aureus under the light resistance item for some products under the SIAA number of LIXIL “JP0122008A0039G”. The products under this number are all smart toilets for the Chinese and Asian markets.

Comprehensive test results, it can be seen that the antibacterial ability of Chinese brand toilets and smart toilets is not worse than foreign brands. In some indicators even pulled away a distance, obviously this is also the Chinese sanitary industry, as well as the overall quality of China’s smart toilets sign of progress.

Science: SIAA antibacterial logo why authority

SIAA’s full name is the Antibacterial Products Technology Association. SIAA logo has been in use since 1998. 2000, under the guidance of the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Japanese national standard for antibacterial [Japan Industrial Standard JISZ2801 (JIS antibacterial standard)] was developed. 2007, the international standard ISO22196 was developed on the basis of maintaining the original main content of the standard. In 2007, the international standard ISO22196 was adopted by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

It is understood that the products applying for SIAA certification in terms of antimicrobial properties, safety and labeling are required to meet certain requirements. Among them, the antibacterial performance of the product needs to be tested according to international standard ISO 22196, through the detection of the product. Its bacteria proliferation ratio of less than 1%, after the durability test still has antibacterial effect. At the same time, the product also needs to meet the safety standards set by SIAA alone in terms of safety, and clearly mark the type of antimicrobial agent and processing parts.

At present, there are four types of SIAA mark, which are antibacterial SIAA mark with ISO number, antibacterial SIAA mark without ISO number, anti-mold SIAA mark, antibacterial・anti-mold SIAA mark. According to the regulations, the SIAA logo can only be used by SIAA members, and the association strictly inspects the market to ensure the correct use of the logo. At present, the SIAA certified products listed in the Chinese mainland market are mainly posted with the first two logos, and some companies use the SIAA logo with the words “for KOHKIN” instead of “antibacterial processing”.
